Oppressive or Not? - Crystal Muzzles - Fashion Accessories Going too Far - Haute Couture

Posted: Jul 16 2012

So, I've noticed quite a few designers sending models down the runway with embellished face masks or muzzles, if you will. I know that runways are meant to rustle a little feathers and to stand out in this day and age, I guess the best way is to offend or hit a nerve with the mostly female audience. I wholeheartedly appreciate the work involved in each handcrafted piece and I seriously love the idea of such hardware in fashion but if I really ponder over the message being sent down that runway, i wonder - is it a statement against the oppression of women or for it? Too political, you say?! Well, it's clear that fashion's influence is socio-political - it's a business, after all.
